When it comes time to painting – whether it’s one room or your whole house – it’s always best to prepare before diving straight into it.

In our experience, a common mistake by novice painters is to not prepare the surface properly before painting. The reason for this is that lack of preparation can stop paint from adhering properly to the surface, thus actually voiding any paint product performance guarantees.

So, without any further ado, here’s some hints and tips which may help assist you on your painting Geelong job:

  • Save yourself the trouble and use only good quality paint! Come into our shop to browse our range of paints: we stock a wide range of high quality suppliers like Resene, Taubmans, Sikkens, Wattyl and Jotun.
  • That also includes painting accessories and tools – buying the right brushes, rollers and tools is a good investment! The quality of paint brush affects paint distribution and has potential to affect the overall look of paint application.
  • Buy some big paint drop sheets. If you already have some drop sheets, check that they are not too old – e.g. with holes and rips – to use.
  • As well as preparing the paint surface, make sure the paint surface you are painting is clean! We can advise you on products to use for this
  • Before painting, fill in any holes in the wall
  • Protect yourself from the messiness of paint application – only old clothes allowed for painting! Keep in mind that we also sell disposable overalls, these can be very handy.
  • Avoid painting in extreme weather conditions, as such temperatures can affect paint performance
  • Plan ahead of time how much paint you need and be prepared of that! Save yourself the trouble of ducking out to get more paint if you run out in the middle of painting.
